Numerical Solution of the Stationary Navier-Stokes Equations Using a Multilevel Finite Element Method

چکیده
The numerical implementation of a multilevel finite element method for the steadystate Navier–Stokes equations is considered. The multilevel method proposed here for the Navier– Stokes equations is a multiscale method in which the full nonlinear Navier–Stokes equations are only solved on a single coarse grid; subsequent approximations are generated on a succession of refined grids by solving a linearized Navier–Stokes problem. Two numerical examples are considered: the first is an example for which an exact solution is known and the second is the driven cavity problem. We demonstrate numerically that for an appropriate choice of grids, a twoor three-level finite element method is significantly more efficient than the standard one-level finite element method.

Two-Level Stabilized Finite Volume Methods for Stationary Navier-Stokes Equations
We propose two algorithms of two-level methods for resolving the nonlinearity in the stabilized finite volume approximation of the Navier-Stokes equations describing the equilibrium flow of a viscous, incompressible fluid. A macroelement condition is introduced for constructing the local stabilized finite volume element formulation. Moreover the two-level methods consist of solving a small nonl...

This paper propose and analyze the two-level stabilized finite element method for the stationary Navier-Stokes equations based on Newon iteration. This algorithm involves solving one small, nonlinear coarse mesh with mesh size H and two linear problems on the fine mesh with mesh size h. Based on local Gauss integration and the quadratic equal-order triangular element ,the two-level stabilized m...
متن کاملAnalysis and Finite Element Approximation of a Nonlinear Stationary Stokes Problem Arising in Glaciology
The aim of this paper is to study a nonlinear stationary Stokes problem with mixed boundary conditions that describes the ice velocity and pressure fields of grounded glaciers under Glen’s flow law. Using convex analysis arguments, we prove the existence and the uniqueness of a weak solution. A finite element method is applied with approximation spaces that satisfy the inf-sup condition, and a ...
متن کاملFinite element analysis of the stationary power-law Stokes equations driven by friction boundary conditions
In this work, we are concerned with the finite element approximation for the stationary power law Stokes equations driven by nonlinear slip boundary conditions of ‘friction type’. After the formulation of the problem as mixed variational inequality of second kind, it is shown by application of a variant of Babuska– Brezzi’s theory for mixed problems that convergence of the finite element approx...
متن کاملNumerical analysis of a free piston problem ∗
The problem considered is the Stokes and Navier-Stokes flow through a system of two pipes in the gravity field; inside a vertical pipe there is a free heavy piston. Theoretical analysis, the existence and non-uniqueness of solution, has been completed recently by the authors. Here we present numerical analysis, using finite elements methods, of the stationary state with respect to the angle bet...
